5 Things You May Not Know About St. Paddy's Day

Today was St' Patrick's Day all over the world (also known to some as alcohol awareness day :P ) so in honour I thought I would share some interesting facts.

1) Originally the eponymous St. was associated with the colour blue, but in one the teachings he was known for he would use a three-leafed clover to demonstrate the idea of the holy trinity and eventually over the years the colour stuck.

2) According to folklore St. Patrick was also credited for getting rid of all of the snakes in Ireland. While this probably isn't true, to this day there aren't in fact any snakes in the country.

3) Many celebrations are held each year for St. Patrick's Day but one interesting thing is that every year the city of Chicago actually dyes their river green.

4) Speaking of celebrations, it is a fact that on March 17th sales of Guinness beer double.

5) Finally, strangely enough from 1919 to 1927 the NHL team the Toronto Maple Leafs were actually named the St. Patricks....... Weird right?

Anyways, I hope you all enjoy your celebrations safely
